Delacroix created an amazing piece of artwork called “Atlanta 1896-1996.” In
the foreground the artist gives a look at the old city of Atlanta. In The
background it shows the bright lights and flashy, large buildings of the modern
city of Atlanta. Shining from right to left, the background with the modern
city looks more lively than the foreground with the older city. In the
midground there are two stadiums, Turner Field and the Georgia Dome. The older
city has many smaller looking buildings. The modern city has huge and more
vibrantly colored buildings. The sky is dark purple with red on the edge.
In the picture
there are many vertical and horizontal lines. The vertical lines are on the
vibrant skyscrapers in the background, while the horizontal lines are created
by the train tracks in the foreground of the picture. There is also many forms
of color contrast. At the top of the picture there is a white moon against a
dark background. Furthermore, in the middle of the picture there is an olympic
banner that stands out because of it’s vibrant white color. Lastly, there are
numerous mobile objects in this picture, including many carriages and trains in
the foreground.
This painting
has many themes and meanings. The biggest theme in this painting is the
progression of the city of Atlanta. The foreground displays an old, rustic
city. The background displays a harmonious view at the modern, busy city of
Atlanta. The juxtaposition of the two
stadiums in the middle symbolizes the progression of
architecture throughout the years. Furthermore, the Olympic banner and the
Olympic torch symbolize how a small farm town can grow and become a big enough
city that it is able to host the Olympics, one of the biggest sporting events
in the world. The image shows how the
world and Atlanta change every day, every year, every decade, and every
century.

background it shows the bright lights and flashy big building of the modern
city of Atlanta. Shining from right to left, the background with the modern
city looks more lively and pleasant than the foreground with the older city. In
the midground there are two stadiums, Turner Field and the Georgia Dome. The
older city has many smaller and classic looking buildings. The modern city has
huge and more vibrant buildings. Overall, this painting shows how a city can
grow and become a huge U.S. city in only a century.
