"Children on the Beach” by Jose Navarro Llorens

Art Analysis:
This painting is called “Children on the Beach,” by Jose Navarro Llorens. In the painting there are children running across the beach on a warm, sunny day. The faint brushstrokes make the children seem mobile. The cool colors in the background make it seem like a nice, clear day outside. The children, a small group, seem to be running on the very edge of the water by the sand in the bottom left corner.  In the background are faint families and sailboats, which makes the viewer feel like it’s a busy day at the beach. The smudged brushstrokes make the painting come to life.
In this painting what really sticks out are the line, color, and the composition. The smudged lines or brushstrokes bring the painting to life and is a nice contrast between the physical, and the emotional feeling of it. The cool blue tones make the children and boats float on water.  The warm colors outlining the children’s bodies really create the image of the children.  The faint, joined hands of the children make the painting create unity and togetherness among the figures.
In this painting there are many abstract themes and symbols. The blue ocean symbolizes nature’s beauty. The children on the beach symbolize life and happiness, as the viewer can see he looks on their faces. The happiness of the children symbolizes how good of a time they are having, even though they will grow up soon. The children’s happiness, and enjoyment reinforces the theme of “Live life to the fullest.”
